The Renesas PS2501L-1-F3-A is a single-channel DC-input, transistor DC-output optocoupler in a 4-pin surface-mount package. It provides a minimum current transfer ratio of 600%, which is high enough that a small input LED current produces substantial output transistor current, and the output transistor is rated for 80V collector-emitter voltage with a 300mV saturation voltage. Input LED forward current is 80mA with a 1.4V forward voltage and a 6V reverse breakdown rating. Because an optocoupler transfers the signal optically, it provides galvanic isolation between input and output circuits. The operating range is -55°C to 100°C.

The PS2501L-1-F3-A is used wherever a control signal must cross an isolation barrier between two circuits that do not share a ground. Typical applications include feedback and status signalling in switch-mode power supplies, digital input isolation on programmable logic controllers and industrial I/O modules, relay and triac trigger drive, and isolated interfaces on telecom and metering equipment. The high 600% current transfer ratio means the part can be driven directly from a logic output through a modest series resistor without a buffer stage. Industrial automation, power supply, building control and instrumentation designers are the usual buyers. The 80V output rating gives headroom for switching loads above logic level.
