The Texas Instruments OPT3007YMFR is an ultra-thin ambient light sensor with a fixed I2C address, designed to measure light intensity and report it digitally to a host processor. The device measures just 946µm by 846µm with a height of 226µm, making it one of the smallest packages available for this function. It is rated for -40°C to 85°C operation and is currently in production. Note that this part is listed as RoHS non-compliant, and detailed optical and electrical specifications should be confirmed against the manufacturer datasheet.
Ambient light sensors are used to measure the light level around a device so the system can adjust display brightness automatically, saving power and improving readability in both dark rooms and direct sunlight. They also support presence and proximity inference, backlight and keypad control, and daylight harvesting in lighting systems. The 226µm height of the OPT3007YMFR lets it fit behind narrow bezels and under cover glass in smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other thin consumer devices where a taller sensor will not fit. Product designers building space-constrained portable hardware are the primary users of this class of part.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
