The Texas Instruments TPD6S300ARUKR is a six-channel USB Type-C port protector providing short-to-VBUS and overvoltage protection along with IEC-level ESD protection, in a 20-pin WQFN measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 750 µm. It works at a 5 V working voltage with a 24 V DC rating, a 24.6 V breakdown voltage, and an 8 V clamping voltage, and absorbs up to 1.12 kW of peak pulse power at 40 A peak pulse current in a unidirectional configuration. The TPD6S300ARUKR has 105 pF of channel capacitance, is rated -40°C to 85°C, and ships in 3, 000-piece tape and reel.

USB Type-C connectors put low-voltage configuration and sideband pins physically adjacent to a VBUS pin that can carry 20 V, so debris, liquid, or a damaged cable can short a 5 V-class pin to the full bus voltage and destroy the port controller. A port protector sits between the connector and the CC, SBU, and related pins to block that fault, clamp overvoltage, and absorb the ESD strikes an exposed connector attracts.
