The Texas Instruments SN65HVD251DR is a high-speed CAN bus transceiver with short loop delay, supplied in an 8-pin SOIC package. It supports data rates up to 1 Mbps in half duplex, operates from a 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply at a nominal 5 V, and provides one driver and one receiver with 100 mV receiver hysteresis. The SN65HVD251DR is rated for -40 C to 125 C operation, is RoHS compliant, lead free and MSL 1, carries an EAR99 export classification, and ships on tape and reel in quantities of 2500. A CAN transceiver converts a controller's single-ended logic signals into the differential CANH and CANL levels the bus uses, and provides the bus fault tolerance the protocol assumes.

The SN65HVD251DR is used as the physical layer between a CAN protocol controller and the two-wire bus in distributed control networks. Its short loop delay matters on long buses and in networks running near 1 Mbps, where propagation delay eats into the bit-time budget available for arbitration.
