The Texas Instruments TCA9535RGER is a 16-bit I2C/SMBus I/O expander with interrupt output and configuration registers, in a 24-pin VQFN package. It operates from 1.65V to 5.5V at up to 400k Hz and is rated to 85C. The device is active, lead-free and RoHS-compliant.
An I2C I/O expander such as the TCA9535RGER adds 16 general-purpose input/output pins to a system over a two-wire I2C or SMBus interface, freeing up scarce processor GPIO. It is used to control LEDs, buttons, switches and status signals in servers, networking equipment, industrial controllers and consumer electronics.
