The Texas Instruments ADS7142QDQCRQ1 is an automotive-qualified 12-bit successive-approximation (SAR) analog-to-digital converter with two input channels and a serial output interface, sampling at up to 140ksps. A SAR converter resolves one bit per clock by successive comparison against an internal DAC, which is what gives this class of ADC low latency per conversion and low power at moderate sample rates. The ADS7142QDQCRQ1 is supplied in a 10-pin WSON package with an exposed thermal pad, measuring 3mm x 2mm with an 800µm height, on tape and reel.

Low-power dual-channel SAR converters at this resolution are used for slow-to-moderate sensor digitisation: temperature, pressure, current and voltage monitoring, battery and supply telemetry, potentiometer and position sensing, and general system housekeeping measurements. The serial interface keeps the pin count low so the converter can sit remotely on a small board and report back to a host microcontroller over a few wires.
