The Texas Instruments ADS1204IRHBR is a quad 16-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter with four independent converters and four analog input channels, in a 32-pin VQFN package with an exposed pad measuring 5mm square. Each channel samples at up to 40ksps with 89dB signal-to-noise ratio, 3LSB integral nonlinearity and 1LSB differential nonlinearity, over a parallel interface. Because the four converters are independent rather than multiplexed, all four channels can be sampled simultaneously, which preserves the phase relationship between them. The device runs from 2.7V to 5.5V drawing 22.5mA and dissipating 122mW, over a -40°C to 105°C range.

The ADS1204IRHBR is used where several analog channels must be measured at the same instant rather than one after another. That requirement defines three-phase motor and inverter control, where phase currents and voltages must be captured simultaneously to compute torque and flux correctly, and it applies equally to power quality and energy metering, servo and motion control feedback loops, and vibration and multi-axis sensor acquisition. The 16-bit resolution with 89dB SNR supports the dynamic range these measurements need, and the parallel interface delivers all four channels to the host without serial bottleneck. Industrial drive manufacturers, power conversion and renewable-energy inverter designers, and test and measurement equipment builders are the typical users.
