The Texas Instruments DAC121C081CIMK/NOPB is a single-channel 12-bit resistor-string digital-to-analog converter with an I2C interface and a unipolar voltage output. It runs from a 2.7V to 5.5V single supply, draws 132 uA nominal supply current, dissipates a maximum of 1.72 mW and settles in 8.5 us. Integral nonlinearity is recorded as 8 LSB and the device is specified from -40C to 125C in a 6-pin TSOT-23 package. It is lead-free, RoHS compliant, MSL 1 rated and supplied 1000 per tape and reel.
Small I2C DACs such as the DAC121C081CIMK/NOPB are used wherever a microcontroller has to set an analog level under software control: bias and threshold voltages for comparators and sensors, gain and offset trim in signal chains, programmable setpoints for motor, valve and heater loops, and calibration voltages that were previously set with a trimmer potentiometer. The 8.5 us settling time and 12-bit resolution place it in slow control and calibration duty rather than waveform generation.
