The Texas Instruments TPS61169DCKR is a step-up boost LED driver with PWM dimming in a 5-pin SC-70 package measuring 2mm by 1.25mm with a 1.1mm height. It runs from a 2.7V to 5.5V input, nominally 3.6V, and boosts to an output as high as 38V, which lets it drive a long series string of LEDs from a single-cell battery or a 5V rail. The switching frequency is 1.2M Hz and quiescent supply current is 300µA. PWM dimming controls brightness by modulating the duty cycle rather than the LED current, which keeps the LED colour point stable across the dimming range. The device is rated -40°C to 85°C.

The TPS61169DCKR is used to drive white LED backlights and indicator strings from a low-voltage supply. Because it boosts to 38V, it can put many LEDs in series so that every LED carries the same current and brightness matches across the string without ballast resistors. Typical applications include LCD panel backlights in handheld instruments, portable medical devices, point-of-sale terminals and industrial HMI panels, keypad and indicator illumination, and small display modules in consumer electronics. The SC-70 footprint makes it viable in space-constrained handheld designs.
