The Analog Devices ADR421BRZ-REEL7 is a precision 2.5V series voltage reference in an 8-pin SOIC, supplied on tape and reel. It holds a 0.04% initial output tolerance with a 3ppm/°C temperature coefficient and draws only 500µA of quiescent current while sourcing up to 10mA. As a series reference it sits between the input supply and the load, accepting inputs up to 18V, which gives it far better power efficiency at light loads than a shunt reference. The ADR421BRZ-REEL7 is rated from -40°C to 125°C.
A 2.5V reference at 0.04% and 3ppm/°C is specified where converter accuracy is the limiting factor: setting the full-scale range of 12-bit to 16-bit ADCs and DACs, biasing precision current sources and comparators, and providing a stable rail for strain gauge and bridge excitation. The 500µA quiescent draw lets the ADR421BRZ-REEL7 sit in battery-powered instruments without meaningfully affecting run time, while the 18V input tolerance allows it to work directly off unregulated 12V or 15V rails. Users are designers of test and measurement equipment, data acquisition systems, industrial process control, medical instrumentation, and precision power supplies.
