The Texas Instruments LMV431AIMFX/NOPB is an adjustable precision shunt Voltage Regulator with a low 1.24 V reference, supplied in a 3-pin SOT-23 package. Its output can be programmed with two external resistors up to 30 V, accepting inputs to 35 V, and it sinks up to 15 mA. Initial tolerance is 1 percent with a 39 ppm/C temperature coefficient. The device operates from -40 C to +85 C and is RoHS compliant, lead free, and supplied on tape and reel.
An adjustable shunt regulator behaves as a programmable Zener: two resistors set the regulation point, making it a compact voltage reference or error amplifier without a dedicated supply pin. The most common use is closing the feedback loop on the secondary side of an isolated flyback converter, driving an optocoupler, where the 1.24 V reference allows regulation of output rails below what a 2.5 V reference can support. Typical users include power supply and charger designers, and designers of battery monitors, voltage detectors, and comparator threshold circuits. The 1 percent tolerance and 39 ppm/C drift suit regulation accuracy requirements in the low single-digit percent.
