The Broadcom HCPL-3120-500E is a single-channel gate drive optocoupler with a push-pull output stage, rated for 2A of output current at up to 30V. It provides 3.75kV of isolation between input and output, is driven by a 16mA input current at a 1.5V forward voltage, and has a 500ns propagation delay with a 100ns fall time. The HCPL-3120-500E is supplied in a surface-mount 8-pin PDIP body on tape and reel in 1000-piece quantities and is rated from -40°C to 100°C.
A gate drive optocoupler combines optical isolation with a power output stage, so a single part both crosses the safety barrier and supplies the peak current an IGBT or MOSFET gate needs, rather than requiring a separate isolator plus driver. Optical isolation is preferred over capacitive or magnetic coupling where a high, well-characterised barrier voltage and immunity to the strong magnetic fields around a motor or inverter matter most. With 2A of drive and 3.75kV of isolation, the HCPL-3120-500E is used in motor drives and three-phase inverters, induction heating, welding equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, and solar inverters. Typical buyers are industrial drive and power-conversion manufacturers.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
