The Texas Instruments TL431AQDBZR is an adjustable shunt voltage reference in a 3-pin SOT-23 package. An adjustable shunt reference is programmed with an external resistor divider, and this device covers a 2.495V to 36V range with up to 100mA of output current. The TL431AQDBZR is a 1% tolerance grade with a 34ppm/C temperature coefficient, rated -40C to 125C, and ships on tape and reel.

Adjustable shunt references are the standard reference and error-amplifier element in isolated switch-mode power supplies, where they set the secondary-side feedback voltage through an optocoupler. They also serve as programmable zener replacements, undervoltage and overvoltage detectors, precision current limits and battery charger voltage setpoints. The small SOT-23 footprint and -40C to 125C rating make this class of part a default choice for power supply, adapter and industrial control designers.
