The Monolithic Power Systems MP2159GJ-Z is a synchronous step-down (buck) switching regulator delivering a single positive adjustable output at up to 1 A. It accepts 2.5 V to 6 V input, produces 0.6 V to 6 V output, and switches at 1.5 MHz in a SOT-23 style package. MP2159GJ-Z is rated -40 C to 125 C, is lead-free and RoHS compliant, and is in active production.
Compact 1 A synchronous buck converters are used as point-of-load regulators generating core, memory, and I/O rails from a 3.3 V or 5 V bus. The 1.5 MHz switching frequency allows small inductors and output capacitors, which keeps the total solution footprint down, and the synchronous rectifier improves efficiency versus a diode design. Typical designs include set-top boxes, networking gear, cameras, portable instruments, and any board where a small adjustable rail is needed close to the load.
