The NXP Semiconductors TJA1042T/3,118 is a high-speed CAN transceiver with standby mode, supplied in an 8-pin SOIC package on tape and reel. It provides one driver, one receiver and one transceiver channel for a 2-wire CAN bus, operating from a 2.8V to 5.5V supply with a 150°C maximum junction temperature and a -40°C to 125°C ambient range. Propagation delay and turn-on delay are both specified at 250ns. A CAN transceiver converts the single-ended TXD/RXD signals of a protocol controller into the differential CANH/CANL levels the bus requires. The /3 suffix denotes the variant with a separate I/O level supply pin.
The TJA1042T/3,118 is the physical-layer interface between a CAN protocol controller and the CAN bus, so it appears on essentially every node of a CAN network. Automotive body control modules, powertrain and chassis ECUs, sensor and actuator nodes, and instrument clusters are the highest-volume applications, and the same part is widely used in industrial CAN and CANopen equipment, building automation, agricultural and construction machinery, and battery management systems. The standby mode allows a node to reduce current draw while remaining able to wake on bus activity, which matters in vehicles where the bus stays alive with the ignition off. Note two discrepancies in this record: the product name cites 5 Mbit/s while the data rate attribute reads 1Mbps, and supply current is listed both as 70uA maximum and 70mA nominal.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
