The Analog Devices LTM4638EY#PBF is a step-down (buck) DC-DC power module that delivers up to 15A of continuous output current from a 3.1V to 20V input supply. It switches at 600 k Hz and integrates the controller, power switches, inductor and compensation network into a single 49-ball BGA package with a 5.36mm maximum height. The device is specified from -40C to 125C operating temperature with a 125C maximum junction temperature and is RoHS compliant.
Step-down power modules like the LTM4638EY#PBF are used to generate low-voltage core, memory and I/O rails for FPGAs, ASICs, processors and DDR from an intermediate 5V or 12V distribution bus. The 15A rating and 20V maximum input suit distributed power architectures in datacom and telecom line cards, industrial automation controllers, and test and measurement instrumentation. Because the power stage and inductor are integrated, design teams use it to cut layout time and board area where a discrete controller plus external FETs and magnetics would otherwise be required.
