The ISSI IS21EF16G-JCLI is a 16 GByte (128 Gbit) MLC NAND flash device with an integrated eMMC 5.1 controller, supplied in a 153-ball FBGA measuring 13mm by 11.5mm with a 1mm maximum seated height at 500um ball pitch. eMMC is managed NAND: the controller, wear levelling, bad-block management and error correction all sit inside the package, so the host sees a simple block storage device. It runs from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply at 3.3V nominal, at up to 200 MHz with 75 mA maximum supply current, across a -40C to 85C industrial range. Note that within this same IS21EF family the 08G record's title reads '8Gb' while this record's title reads '16 Gbyte' - the two cannot both follow the same convention, so one of those titles is wrong by a factor of eight; the Interface field also reads only 'Serial' and REACH SVHC is flagged Yes.
16GB is the eMMC capacity step at which an embedded design has room for a full Linux or Android image, a graphical application, local media or map data, logs, and A and B partitions for safe over-the-air updates. Typical hosts are industrial HMI panels and gateways, digital signage and kiosk players, automotive infotainment and telematics units, networking equipment, medical instruments and point-of-sale terminals. The -40C industrial low-temperature grade is what separates this part from a consumer device and is required for cabinet, outdoor and in-vehicle installation. MLC rather than TLC flash is specified where write endurance across a long service life would be marginal on a three-bit-per-cell part, which is common once logging and update staging are counted.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
