The TDK C2012X7S1A226MT000E is a 22uF multilayer Ceramic Capacitor rated at 10V DC with a 20% tolerance, using an X7S dielectric in an 0805 (2012 metric) case. X7S is a Class 2 ceramic specified from -55C to 125C with up to 22% capacitance change across that range - a slightly wider band than X7R, which is the concession that allows more capacitance in the same case size. Like all Class 2 ceramics its effective capacitance falls as DC bias is applied, so derating matters as much as the marked value. Note this record holds only fourteen attributes, with no RoHS, lead-free, dimensional or lifecycle data recorded, although the product title does state RoHS compliance.
22uF in an 0805 delivers high bulk capacitance per unit of board area, and is used as input and output capacitance on point-of-load buck converters and LDOs feeding 1.0V to 5V rails, as the local energy reservoir on processor, DDR and FPGA supplies that take large transient load steps, and as holdup capacitance that lets a rail ride through a brief input interruption. The X7S dielectric extends the usable range to 125C, which puts the part into automotive and industrial designs that an X5R equivalent could not serve. Engineers reach for a value this high in a case this small specifically to replace a tantalum or polymer electrolytic, gaining very low ESR and no wear-out mechanism in exchange for bias sensitivity. The 10V rating combined with that bias derating confines it in practice to 5V and lower rails.
